AAA Emergency Tree
Service, LLC and Denver Landscape Maintenance
In 1973 I started DLM in order to be my own boss and do something
I always enjoyed doing - working outside and doing garden and landscape
work. In 1987, having worked with a local company – Ross Tree Company
– during those winter months I fell in love with tree work, got my
tree license in Denver and jokingly have been saying ever since that
landscape work is below me (me swinging high above the ground on a
rope now –most of the time anyway!!) In 2001, newly married, I taught
my wife Christy to climb and trim trees. Later that same year I sensed
a need in the marketplace and started a specialty company: AAA Emergency
Tree Service. This year we extend over the entire Front Range of Colorado
and in the next several months will expanding to 4-5 major cities in
the region. I have been able to grow my business and make a good living.
However, when I came across this idea I called the Philanthropic Business
Model as a result of my chance meeting with Maria of Love
Outreach Ministries I felt like a certain equilibrium had finally
been achieved because not only am I able to make a good living but
also can contribute in very positive ways through the money I raise
to make a difference in the world.
Update: by the way since first writing this story some 2 ½ months
ago the total money raised by our business in $4100.00 - that takes
care of 14 children for 1 year or 1 child for 14 years and that includes
an education as well. The money that’s been raised has gone a long
way to solidifying the ministries financial picture and action is now
under way to looking for a piece of land to buy for the purpose of
building a school for 50-100 street children in southern India. Also
we are making initial plans to visit India with Maria and Jack in Winter
of 2008 to experience first hand the work being done not only for the
kids at the orphanage and streetschool but also for the healthcare
facility in the leprosy colony. Most exciting will be looking at the
land options – getting the school one step closer to becoming reality.
